Department of Neurosurgery
Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia Campus
POSTED: February 24, 2010

The Department of Neurosurgery at Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia Campus has a Post-doctoral Scholar position available beginning in January, 2010. Scientists interested in studying the cause and effect of brain swelling and edema; evaluating the efficacy of novel treatments to attenuate the cellular injury associated with focal and diffuse traumatic brain injury (TBI), ionic impairment, mitochondrial injury, cell swelling and the role of AQP4's are invited to reply.

Working experiences with rodent models of TBI utilizing (1) multi-modal physiological assessment parameters including intracranial pressure (ICP), cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP), mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) and/or (2) MRI assesment parameters including ADC, DWTI and/or spectroscopy is highly desired.

Applicant must have at least 5 or more years of experience and have excellent skill with a variety of standard and advanced molecular techniques including siRNA and shRNA knockdown, real time RTPCR, gene expression, reporter assay, RNA ChIP, cloning and sequencing, IHC, WB, co-immuno-precipitation. Candidate must be able to work with a new mouse model of traumatic brain injury and understand the application of knock-out technology and be able to design, implement, and direct the research team assigned to this project. Surgical preparation and acute management of rodents following trauma inclusive of DNA type selection and data base management is required. Pay based on the current NIH scale for senior post-doctoral scholars; $42,000 to $ 52,000 annually.

Please direct letters of inquiry to Christina R. Marmarou, PhD, Assistant Professor, Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia Campus, Department of Neurosurgery, to crmarmar@vcu.edu with attachments including (1) statement of research interest, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) most recent publication and (4) contact information for recommendations.
